
2021 Youth Tour Replaced With Scholarship
Montana’s electric cooperatives have elected to withdraw from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) 2021 Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. due to the ongoing and unpredictable nature of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In lieu of the 2021 Youth Tour, Montana Electric Cooperative Association (MECA) will host a Youth Tour Essay Contest. MEC will select the top two essay applicants, each of whom, will win $1,500. The first place essay will also be submitted to the statewide competition for a chance to win an additional $2,500!
The topic for this year’s essay is:
How has reliable electricity benefitted you and your community through the COVID-19 pandemic?
MEC applicants must meet the criteria, below:
• Students must be a High School Junior or Senior in fall of 2021 (currently a Sophomore or Junior);
• The student’s parent or guardian must be served by Missoula Electric Cooperative;
• The essay must include a cover page with the student’s full name, address and telephone number;
• The essay must be mailed or delivered to MEC,(Attention Kelsey Lodge), no later than 5 PM on December 18, 2020.
