2021 Annual Meeting Postponement

Posted: February 1, 2021

MEC members received a letter in mid-January, notifying them that the Cooperative had officially decided to postpone the 2021 Annual Meeting, which was to be held on Saturday, March, 20, 2021. This annual event, which our Board, employees and members look forward to each spring, will be rescheduled for a later date, when state and local mandates allow for sizable, in-person gatherings, and the health and safety of our members is not in jeopardy.

Hosting an in-person Annual Meeting is ideal, and as democratically-elected representatives of MEC’s membership, the Board did not make the decision to postpone our Annual Meeting, lightly. Both MEC bylaws, and current state statute, require Annual Meetings to be held in-person. Legislative changes are being proposed, to make an amendment to existing bylaws, which would allow for virtual meetings. Although this is not our preference, this amendment would allow us to host an Annual Meeting, should gathering restrictions remain in place. When a substitution date has been chosen, MEC will mail members a copy of the event details and voting materials for this years’ Trustee election in Districts 1 and 3.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to test our resiliency and patience as a Cooperative, and we thank you for your support during these unprecedented times. We look forward to the day when we can all convene again.
