As summer begins to heat up, MEC will unveil the first level 3 electric vehicle (EV) fast charger in our service territory. The EV charging station, which will provide drivers with approximately 200 miles of range per hour spent charging, was constructed with assistance from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality’s “Fast Charge Your Ride” grant. The purpose of these grants is to offset the cost of building a high-speed electric vehicle charging network along interstate corridors and in tourist locations. Seeley Lake, the new location of a 50-kilowatt DC charger, was identified as a travel destination that would support EV drivers exploring Western Montana.

When the opportunity arose to apply for a grant that would support one of our communities, MEC jumped at the chance. Likewise, when we were looking for a partner to host the site, we thought of the Seeley Lake Community Foundation for its mission, values and commitment to the community. As local residents and tourists seek to explore the Seeley and Swan Valleys, it is essential that we provide charging infrastructure to take the headache out of finding reliable charging stations. Another added benefit is that while EV drivers are charging their cars, they can take in the Seeley Lake community and visit local eateries and shops.

As we prepare for a more electrified future, we hope to ease accessibility for tourists visiting local hot-spots, like the Seeley Lake community, for years to come!
