ReCHARGE EV Charging Program

Posted: February 1, 2023

Turn Your Garage Into Your Very Own Fueling Station!

ReCHARGE, MEC’s residential managed electric vehicle (EV) charging program, allows members to charge their electric vehicle during off-peak hours for a reduced price.

Save Power. Save Money.
Charging an EV at home is easy and convenient but it can have a big impact on the power grid if everyone is charging their car during peak times when the cost of MEC’s wholesale power is higher.

Charging off-peak helps the Co-op sell power during periods of reduced consumption when wholesale power costs are lower.
With MEC’s ReCHARGE Program, you’ll receive…

A Level 2 Smart EV Charger.
The key to the ReCHARGE program is the charger. MEC will furnish members with a 32 Amp, 240 Volt Level 2 smart EV charger which automatically shuts off during peak periods, which are weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A Reduced Billing Rate.
The charger is equipped with a built-in, revenue-grade kilowatt-hour (kWh) meter which will track energy utilized for EV charging.

All kWh used for charging will be deducted from your primary residential meter and billed at a reduced rate.

Based upon our rates today, all energy consumed by the charger will be billed at a 2 cent per kWh discount when compared with our residential energy rate. For example, if our residential rate is 7.15 cents per kWh, our ReCHARGE rate would be 5.15 cents per kWh.

Payment Arrangements That Work for You.
The ReCHARGE EV charger can be rented from the Cooperative for a one-time fee of $499, or for just $19 per month.

A Steal of a Deal.
The average American vehicle sold today gets approximately 28 miles per gallon. For the cost of one gallon of gas, an EV driver can go 197 miles. In other words, charging the average EV with MEC’s ReCHARGE Program is like buying gas at 43 cents a gallon!

The Fine Print.
When you stop by the office to pick up a charger, you will be required to complete a ReCHARGE Agreement form.
