CELEBRATING CO-OP MONTH
Each October, cooperatives across the country celebrate National Co-op Month — an opportunity to recognize what makes the cooperative business model unique and valuable.
Unlike investor-owned companies, cooperatives are owned by the people they serve. At Missoula Electric Cooperative, that means our members are more than customers, you are owners with a voice in how your cooperative is governed. Local members elect the board of trustees, and important decisions are made with the needs of our membership and communities in mind.

MEC was created by local people working together to bring electricity to rural areas that other utilities were unwilling or unable to serve. While much has changed since then, that cooperative spirit remains at the heart of everything we do. We continue to invest in a safe and reliable electric system, prepare for emerging challenges,
support the communities we serve, and make decisions with the long-term interests of our members in mind.
Cooperatives also strengthen their communities in ways that go beyond providing essential services. Through local partnerships, community programs, scholarships, charitable giving, and the dedication of employees who live and work here, MEC helps support the places our members call home.
None of this would be possible without you. Your participation, feedback, patience during outages, attendance at district meetings and continued support help make MEC a stronger cooperative.
During Co-op Month, we celebrate the principles that brought us together and continue to guide us today: local ownership, democratic control, community commitment and cooperation.
Thank you for your trust and support, and for being an important part of Missoula Electric Cooperative.
