North Fork of the Blackfoot River

Your Account

The Cooperative will read meters on the last day of each month. Bills will include usage from the first calendar day through the last calendar day of the month. Bills are due and payable 15 days from the billing date. Any unpaid balances are considered delinquent and are subject to a late charge and disconnection. Seasonal homes are treated as residential accounts.

The Horsepower Charge for irrigation accounts will be billed in two installations; half at the start of the season in April, and the second half on your August billing statement. Meters will be read monthly April through October and bills for kilowatt hour usage are rendered monthly. If an irrigation service is not going to be used for a given season, please contact the office before the April billing statements are sent out.

If for any reason you do not receive a bill, please call us; you are still responsible for electricity consumed. Bills are deemed delivered when delivered to the United States Postal Service with postage. It is your responsibility to keep us informed of your current mailing address and phone number.

Disconnected accounts will not be reconnected until all charges up to the day of disconnection are paid in full. A reconnect fee of $100.00 and possibly a deposit will be collected prior to reconnect. The after hours reconnection fee is $150.00. After hours are considered 3:00 pm to 8:00 am and will include weekends, defined as the period between 3:00 pm on Friday and 8:00 am on Monday.

Each time Cooperative personnel are required to make a personal visit to the premises for the purpose of collection on a delinquent account(s), the consumer will be charged $35.00.

How to Understand Charges*

Your current charges are figured as follows:

Current Usage = Difference of Previous Reading subtracted from Current Reading
Current Reading 12-1-21 9773
Previous Reading  12-31-21  8002
Current Usage 1,771  kWh
Take Current Usage and multiply by our Montana residential rate (currently $0.0725 for the first 1,000 kWh and $0.0735 for additional kWh) to find your Total Energy Charges.
Current
Usage
 Rate Total Energy Charges
1,000 @ $0.0725/kWh $72.50
771 @ $0.0735/kWh  $56.66
$129.16

The Base Charge is a fee that offsets fixed service and maintenance costs and is charged monthly to every active meter in the field. It is a set amount (currently $28.00) and does not fluctuate with usage as all of the other charges do. Add the Base Charge and any other fixed charges (such as a security light) or miscellaneous charges (fees) to your Total Energy Charges and you will get your total amount due for the month. In the example above, the total energy charge was $129.16 to which we would add the $28.00 residential base fee. The resulting total amount would be $157.16.

*Examples given are for MEC’s rural residential service. Commercial, Irrigation and Industrial rates will have different base charges, energy charges and may include annual and demand charges.

Estimated Bills

If, for whatever reason, a meter reading can not be obtained, the Cooperative will estimate the reading for the billing period. The estimate will be based on the average of the previous 2 months and corresponding period from the previous year.
