Payment Options

Paying your bill has never been easier!

In-Person

Stop by our office at 1700 W. Broadway on weekdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. A drive-thru is available for your convenience. Please note that credit card transactions must be done in the office for your security.

To drop off a payment after-hours, please use the drop box in our drive-thru. All drop box payments will be posted on the next business day. Please do not put a cash payment in the drop box.

*On holidays, we encourage you to visit our events calendar or call ahead to ensure we are open before visiting the office.

Phone

Pay via phone using our automated payment system – simply dial (888) 477-7340. To speed future transactions, you can safely and securely store your payment information to avoid entering it each time you call. If you call from a phone number that’s registered to your account, the payment system will automatically pull your account information.

Online

Prefer paying online? Login to your SmartHub account and pay within the portal. If you don’t have a SmartHub account, we’ve provided steps on how to create a one online and/or on your smartphone or tablet. The SmartHub mobile app is available for both Apple devices and Android devices.

Mail

To pay by mail, write your account number on the top of your check and place the bill stub and check inside the self-addressed envelope included with your statement. Please do not send cash in the mail. MEC is not responsible for cash that is lost or stolen in the mail. When you pay with a check, you authorize us to use the information to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account or process the payment as a check transaction.

Autopay

With Autopay, you’ll never have to mail in another payment or worry about a late payment. When you sign up for Autopay, the amount due will be drafted directly from your checking account or debit/credit card. Simply print and complete an  Autopay Form, attach a voided check, and return it to our office in-person or by mail (MEC; Attention: Member Services; 1700 W. Broadway, Missoula, MT. 59808). Please don’t write your credit card information on the auto-draft form. To set up automatic payments using a debit or credit card, you must do so within the SmartHub portal. You can also enroll via phone when using our automated payment system – simply dial (888) 477-7340 and follow the prompts.

Prepayment – “Pay Your Way”

Pay Your Way is MEC’s prepay billing option allowing members to take control of their member account. A good analogy is putting gas in your car – the more you put in, the farther you can go. You can either fill the tank full or put $5 in each day. With traditional billing, members consume the electricity and we bill them for what was used. With Pay Your Way, enrolled members maintain a credit on their account, and prepay for electricity prior to using it.

If this sounds like a program you’d like to take advantage of, there are two simple ways to sign up. You can either download a Prepayment Agreement and return a copy to our office by mail or in person, or submit a Prepayment Agreement online.

Budget Billing

How does it work?

  • Your account must be at a zero balance.
  • We will average your electric usage over the past 12 months. This amount will determine your monthly bill for the next year.
  • With Budget Billing, members cannot pay ahead, as the computer needs to see a payment each month in order to consider your account current.
  • Each April, Budget Billing accounts will be reviewed to reflect a current 12-month average. This is called a “true-up” month.
    • If you have a credit balance you will not need to make a payment in May for April’s usage.
    • If you have a negative balance, you will be required to bring your account to a zero balance to continue on Budget Billing.
  • It is recommended that members enroll in Budget Billing between April and August. This ensures that when you “true-up” your account in April, you won’t owe an excessive amount.
  • Please call our office at 406.541.4433 or email billing@meccoop.com if you are interested in signing up for the Budget Billing program.

Already enrolled?

We encourage you to keep an eye on your account balance. If you notice that your account is falling behind, you have an opportunity to pay more than what is “budgeted” so a large sum is not required in the spring.
