Engineers Make A World of Difference

In honor of National Engineering Week, we’d like to introduce you to MEC’s Manager of Engineering, Erik Langaunet. Erik graduated from Montana State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. His fascination with engineering began at a young age, “When I was eight, I had the opportunity to tour the Hungry Horse Dam. I remember seeing the large generators, the complex control panels and I can vividly recall the sound it made as the water rotated the turbines.”

Erik worked for an environmental engineering firm in Spokane, WA, prior to joining MEC as a Staking Technician in 2004. Fast forward fifteen years, Erik is now our Manager of Engineering and enjoys a career that allows him to get into the field. “MEC provides power to many beautiful areas of Western Montana, which I am grateful to work in,” Erik commented, before continuing on about the challenges he faces in his role. “Our system is dynamic – always changing and growing. The challenge is to understand the impact of these changes so we can plan accordingly.”

When Erik is not in the field, he enjoys hiking, skiing and Flathead Lake adventures with his two daughters.
